Interview with Lance Anoai

MEBD: When did you decide to get into the family business of professional wrestling?
LA: I decided to get into the family business right before my senior year in high school which was in 2009. My dream was always not to wrestle and just play baseball and try to go far in that.

MEBD: What was it like growing up in the wrestling business?
LA: Growing up in the wrestling businesss was hard at times but also pretty fun. It was hard because like my dad will be gone so my mom took care of me and my 2 sisters and then he will come home and spend time with us. Then it was fun because like now when I meet some of the old school wrestlers they be like last time I seen you was when you were riding on your dads suitcase lol. I hear that often. Yea my dad took me to a lot of the shows to show me off lol.

MEBD: What was your favorite match growing up?
LA: really didn’t have a favorite match I just enjoyed watching my family wrestle. I was always a fan of The Rock, even though he is family I always wanted to be like him.

MEBD: Out of your family, who is your all time favorite wrestler and why?
LA: No favorite for me like I said I enjoy watching all of them. They were entertaining and knew how to put on a great show for all the fans. The rock was always doing the eye-brow and rakish always giving the stink face and dancing. I enjoyed them all when they were on tv but even now I still enjoy watching them.

MEBD: Afa Jr stated that when he was younger he had Hulk Hogan at his birthday and Vince McMahon gave him his first wrestling buddy, do you have any stories as a child of a WWE superstar?
LA: I don’t remember a lot when I was younger but one story my dad told me recently was when I was little me and Chris Hero always wrestler and one time we were doing it in the living room we broke the coffee table and my mom was up set .

MEBD: Recently there was a Yokozuna Memorial Show, what was your biggest memory of him outside of the business, and what was your favorite moment of his inside the business?
LA: I am young and he wrestled when I was a little kid and it was just hard to remember my favorite moment of inside the business but when I watch tapes I know I was at WrestleMania 9 and that’s when he won the belt and then lost it in the same night. My favorite Memorie outside the business was me always messing around with him and he always took us out to eat and then when we were done he always gave me $20 and I was a kid so I had this big smile on my face.

MEBD: What was it like teaming with your dad and Rikishi at the show?
LA: Teaming with them was probably my most memorable match. It was a pleasure to be in the ring with them they are legends and I got to tag with both of them. I know they are family but its like a dream come true. I was nervous at time because I was like I do not want to mess anything up which thank god I didn’t but while we are in the match rakish is giving me a few pointers like for me to slow down so that helped me out a lot and will continue to help me in my future.

MEBD: Was that your first time teaming with your dad?
LA: No my first time teaming with my dad was in Allentown,Pa our hometown. We did a tag team match against the Killer Studs and it was a very good match. Nervous at first because you never want to mess up in front of your dad and then get yelled at later for it but it turned out very well we just went out there and had a great time together.

MEBD: How do you manage your personal life and your professional life?
LA: Me to manage both my lives is pretty tuff. I am a full time student and I also work and I wrestle. Wrestling for me is on Tuesday and Thursday nights. And I go to school Monday thru Thursday so its like no sleep for me. I try to make it to the gym as much as I can its hard to get around and when you are tired you just want to lay down, but I am going to start dedicating myself to the gym so I can become bigger for my professional career.

MEBD: What is your ultimate goal in this business?
LA: My ultimate goal in this business is what every other indepdent worker wants and that is a contract. I am hoping one day soon I will be able to get a WWE contract. Like many people say when the time is right you will. You always want your First impression to be your best impression so when my dad feels like I am ready I will have the opportunity.

MEBD: The situation, You are at WrestleMania, how do you make your WrestleMania moment and with whom do you make it with/against?
LA: My WrestleMania Moment would have to be Me and my uncle Afa Jr vs. Brent Dibiase and Ted Dibiase. I think it would be a battle of generations and it willl look real good because we all are enjoying what our families loved to do in there life.

MEBD: What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far and why?
LA: My most memorable moment in my career so far was this past Yokozuna Show. Like getting the chance to wrestle in front of a big crowd and for a special occasion was just so special to me. Then to top it all off I got to tag with my dad and Rikishi so That was the most memorable moment in my life.

MEBD: What has been your best match?
LA: My best match was probably me and Afa Jr. vs. A.C. Anderson and Havoc at the time me and Afa were having a family fued so we got stuck tagging with each other. It was fun and crazy like he tried doing something then I tried to top it we were just going back and forth and then I got beat up for being the little guy but hey its wrestling. I remember my girlfriend and her family just screaming for me to make the tag and Afa was pulling his hand back and forth so I would not beable to make the tag. But at the end we were all safe and it was a hell of a match we put on for all the fans.
MEBD: What can we expect from you in the future?
LA: You can expect a college degree and hopefully a WWE superstar in the future. So lets hope everything goes as planned.

Wade Barrett, a Champion in the Making.

In 2010, Wade Barrett placed his name in the history books of the WWE when he won the debut season of NXT. NXT was a show where different wrestlers competed to win a WWE contract. At the completion of the season, the contestants formed an allegiance against the entire WWE roster. Barrett led Nexus as they went on to destroy the WWE Universe on a weekly basis. Barrett feuded with John Cena throughout the fall of 2010, even defeating him and forcing him to become a member of Nexus.

Barrett earned himself a WWE Championship match with Randy Orton at Survivor Series. With Cena as the referee, and facing the stipulation that if Barrett did not become WWE Champion, he would be fired, Barrett seemed to be a shoe in for winning. Instead, Cena called the match down the line, maintaining the integrity of the WWE Championship. Randy Orton retained. As time moved forward, Barrett and the Nexus began to split, and Barrett found his stock dropping.

Just weeks before WrestleMania XXVIII, Wade Barrett injured his arm on Monday Night Raw and was scratched from the card. Many reports stated that Barrett was due to win Money in the Bank at WrestleMania. Barrett has denied these reports.

After SummerSlam, Barrett returned. He stated that he would embrace his bare knuckle roots. He changed his finisher from the Wasteland to the Spinning Back Fist. Now he has a full beard and his style is more aggressive. Wade Barrett is only days from becoming a World Heavyweight Champion!

Texans vs Broncos  Broncos
Steelers vs Raiders  Steelers
Patriots vs Ravens  Ravens
Packers vs Seahawks  Packers

This week, the AFC Championship rematch is featured on Sunday Night Football and for these two teams, it could not be a bigger game. After both The New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens coming off upset loses a week ago, they are both will be motivated. With both teams looking to win a championship this year, week 3 can be very pivotal. While it is very early in the season, the AFC playoff picture is almost guaranteed to be a tight race, and this match could very well decide who has home-field advantage in Baltimore.  In January, in Foxboro, Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady was outplayed by Joe Flacco, who has more passing yards and touchdowns. In the end, it was a drop touchdown pass by Lee Evans followed by a missed field goal by Billy Cundiff that prevented the Ravens from going to the Super Bowl. With both of these players no longer on the team, and Joe Flacco now having Jim Caldwell as his quarterback coach, the Ravens are playing with a lot more confidence with the passing game, despite last weeks lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Ravens did not lose a home game in 2011, and opened up the season with a blowout victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, they will continue their home momentum in week 3. Look for the Ravens to win 28-20.

CM Punk Renewed Interest

On November 20, 2011, CM Punk became the WWE Champion for the second time in his career. On that night he defeated Alberto Del Rio in Madison Square Garden securing himself as the face of the WWE. When Punk became champion, he was a considered a baby face (fan favorite). Since that night, Punk has held the title for over 300 days, which makes him the 10th longest running WWE Champion in history. Bob Backland, Randy Savage, Pedro Morales, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, and Bruno Sammartino are the only guys to hold the title longer than Punk. Of all these title reigns, it should be noted that John Cena was the only champion who performed at weekly pay-per-views and every Monday Night on Prime time television. During Cena's title runs, although he was the baby face, it became normal for the fans to have a mixed reaction. So that brings me to the next point, how does one keep from going stale?

As CM Punk's title reign made it ways to 200 days, we started getting the same ol' Punk. While he had two epic matches with Daniel Bryan, the lack of heels had fans wondering, who would be the next worthy contender. Then there was John Cena. Since 2006, John Cena has been the guy that the women and children love, and male demographic hates. During his feud with the Big Show and former WWE Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis, fans really started to get behind Cena. But where does he go from here? Back to the top?

As John Cena made his way back into the WWE Title picture, someone had to be a heel. Is it time to make Cena a heel? Or maybe Punk could make the switch during his title reign, like Savage did in 1989. As Punk continued to remind everyone that he is the best in the world, he started showing shades of turning his back on the WWE Universe. First, it was attacking The Rock during the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. But since The Rock is not there every week, that was not going stand. So to make a full heel turn CM Punk attacked the beloved Jerry the King Lawler. Punk claimed that he felt disrespected when Lawler said he turned his back on the WWE Universe. Punk continued by saying that he has been disrespected throughout his entire championship run. As he and Cena began to cross paths, Paul Heyman joined CM Punk as his personal advisor. Paul Heyman has been known as very controversial figure in the history of professional wrestling. He also is responsible for bringing Brock Lesnar to the WWE, even leading him to the WWE Championship.

Paul Heyman being around CM Punk, makes Punk even more interesting. If Punk is gold on the microphone, than Heyman is platinum. As Punk gets closer to the one year mark, we can only sit back and wait and see what these two have in store for us.

Rock vs Cena DVD Review

For the first time in history, the WWE scheduled their main event for their biggest event an entire year prior. The night after WrestleMania XXVII, John Cena challenged The Rock to a match at WrestleMania XXVIII. This would be the first time the Rock wrestled since WrestleMania XX. The WWE recently released a DVD that goes behind the story and allows fans to relive the build up to this epic main event.

Fans are treated with the story from not only The Rock and John Cena's, but also what some of the other WWE Superstars think of the match. After enjoying the story DVD, fans can relive each promo in its entirety from the two. The tag team match, as well as their epic showdown at WrestleMania XXVIII is also included. There are some exclusive extras on the Blu Ray edition. If you are a fan of these two, the DVD is worth it.

Interview with Kimberly

ME: How long have you been wrestling?
K: I debuted in February 2007 but started training in the summer of 2006
ME: Who were your favorites growing up and why?
K: Hard question because I loved everyone, but I always loved watching the Ultimate Warrior for his intensity and the Rockers for their skills.  I was a big fan also of Dean Malenko (because he just moved so fluidly) and his family and Road Warriors (who doesn't like tough guys with big spikes on their shoulder pads?), Powers of Pain, Demolition, Koko B Ware, One Man Gang, Tug Boat and all the other guys during that era.
ME: What made you decide to get in the business and how did your friends and family perceive it?
K: My brother and I used to sneak around and watch wrestling growing up.  My parents never approved.  My big brother grew out of it and I never did.  My mom wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer which I had the grades and scholarships to do, but in my senior year at FAU, I met Marty Jannetty who introduced me to the Warlord, who took me to Jimmy Snuka.  I then began my training with Jimmy and one of his instructors, Soul Man Alex G (who trained MVP and Conor O'Brian).  It was when they said I was ready that I had my try-out with The Wild Samoan Training Center and Afa the Wild Samoan.
ME: Being introduced to the wrestling business your senior year of college must have been special to you personally, but what was the reaction from your friends and family, considering you had worked so hard in school?
K: My father was upset. His side of the family are all successful - doctors, meteorologists, architects, etc. My mom backed me up like she always did, but I could tell she didn't understand my motivation until much later. It was when my dad saw me wrestle for the first time at WXWs Elite 8 that he got it. He knew I was meant to be a wrestler.

ME: You were trained by one of the most famous families in wrestling, how did that put you ahead of a lot of other women in this business?
K: You can think of The Wild Samoan Training Center and the "Harvard" of pro-wrestling and Afa as the "godfather".

ME: Describe the feeling when you became WXW women's champion for the first time?
K: WXW is a company that Afa and his family built over the past 40 years. To know that he had enough respect for me to carry his belt and represent his family not only to the community, but also to the world is a feeling that is so over-whelming that its indescribable. All other titles seemed meaningless. It was also on that night Afa considered me to be a daughter.  I was very emotional.

ME: For the first two episodes of Shine you were in the opening match, since that is a new promotion was there a lot of pressure to captivate the audience?
K: For Shine 1, I put a lot of pressure on myself.  It was a brand new company of all of the top women in the world and I needed to stand out.  Most of the fans didn't know me because I had been so exclusive to WXW for the past 3 years and the other girls were from Shimmer, WSU, ROH and other more dominate companies on the women's wrestling scene.  All of that pressure on top of being first on the card was a little nerve racking.  I don't believe I gave my best that day against Veda Scott. I came home and critiqued myself HARD.
When it came time for Shine 2, I took it as an opportunity to redeem myself. My match against Su Yung was much more competitive.  I felt like I had improved and showed the fans a little more of what I was capable of (even though I lost again. booooo!). There will be more out of my bag of tricks on Shine 3.

ME: Being exclusive to WXW for three years, you explained you felt a lot of pressure, what was it about Shine that made you step into their ring, as opposed to a more established promotion?
K: I met Lexie Fyfe through Afa at my first Elite 8. She saw potential in me and brought me into her Slammin Ladies production where I've worked for a couple of years now. Her knowledge and expertise about women's wrestling is some of the best around, and I pride myself on being surrounded by great minds so I can get better, faster.
Last year, Lexi brought me to Chicago for a Shimmer match and broadened my thoughts on women's wrestling. I was amazed and humbled by the athletes from all over the world and their sheer passion for the business. So when she asked me to work for Shine and to have the opportunity to work with all these extremely talented women, it was a no brainier. The answer was most definitely, "Yes!"
ME: In your match against Su Yung, You ladies had a very interesting small package roll around, how difficult was that to pull off?
K: HA!  That was definitely interesting.  If the ring was just a little bit bigger, the pins would've gone on longer, but we ran into the ropes.  Spacial awareness and equilibrium are affected in a BIG way.

ME: What can fans expect from Kimberly in the future?
K: They can expect me to be HARDER, FASTER, and STRONGER!

ME: Anything you would like to say to the fans?
K: My fans are my lifelines.  I am so grateful for each and everyone of them and its because of them that I do this.  I love wrestling. Everyone knows that.  But having the ability to touch people's lives by doing something that I hold so dear to me makes my career more meaningful.  That's why I am very active in the Usos Foundation (  It was an honor to be nominated as a board member.  I want to give kids and young adults opportunities in this business I never had.  I was able to make my own dream a reality, so as a thank you, I want to help others do it as well.

September: A Meaningful Month for Baltimore

In 1996, the Baltimore Orioles made a run for the postseason as the wildcard team. The Orioles fell short in the playoffs to the division rival New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. During that time, they were the most powerful team in baseball, setting a record for most team homeruns with 257. The record lasted only one season. That same year, football returned to Baltimore after 13 years when Art Modell moved the Cleveland Browns into town.  The Ravens however, would finish the season at 4-12.

In 1997, the Orioles accomplished and incredible feat, going wire to wire in first place becoming division champions. The Orioles fell short in the American league Championship Series for the second year in a row to the Cleveland Indians and have yet to make the postseason since.  That year, the Ravens improved to 6-9-1. They failed to reach the playoffs.

In 1999, the Ravens experienced their first season without a losing record as they finished 8-8. This was coach Brian Billick's first season with the team.

In 2000, the Ravens put together their best season to date, finishing at 12-4. However they failed to win the division championship and would be forced to play in the first round of the playoffs. The Ravens, having only one playoff game at home defeated the Denver Broncos. They continued their run on the road defeating the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders to reach the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay. The Ravens defeated the New York Giants to become the fastest franchise in NFL history to win the Super Bowl.

The Ravens established a winning culture for the football team, while the Orioles continued to fail to reach .500.

In 2011, the Ravens played with a purpose. For the first time in franchise history, they swept their entire division and went undefeated at home. The Ravens received a first round bye in the playoffs. They defeated the Houston Texans, but would lose to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

When Orioles manager took over the team on August 2, 2010, they finished with the best record from that date on. However the playoffs was out the question. In 2011, the team went back to their losing ways.

As the 2012 season began, Baltimore fans began to cry out of desperation for the team to return to its winning ways. The Orioles played well in the first half, but they were seven games behind the Yankees and just five games over .500. Fans in Baltimore began to fear the worse. Perhaps the trend for the Orioles is play well in the first half, and crumble in the second.

As the second half began, the Orioles continued their winning ways. The Orioles finished with the month of August 18-9. They currently are behind the Yankees by just one game in the American League East. They begin a series with the Tampa Bay Rays who are currently trailing the Orioles by one game. This will be a pivotal three game series.

The Ravens began the season with heavy hearts as the man responsible for brining them to Baltimore, Art Modell passed away a week ago at age 87. For the first time in franchise history the team opened up at home on Monday Night. The Ravens, wearing T-shirts of Modell under their jerseys played a near perfect game on both sides of the ball destroying the Cincinnati Bengals 41-13.

September 2012 is a meaningful month for Baltimore sports.
