In the same place that WWE housed some of its greatest moments, AJ Styles defeats Kevin Owens to win his first WWE United States Championship.
Since his arrival at the 2016 Royal Rumble, Styles has been on fire. He and Chris Jericho teamed up, only to break up and engage in an incredible feud. He went on to give Roman Reigns his best world title defense and of course he made it cool to "beat up John Cena." Styles would go on to become the WWE Champion. Something we never thought we would say five years ago.
Despite losing the WWE Title, Styles capped of his year with a one of the best openers in WrestleMania history when he took on Shane McMahon. While fans were not happy with his opponent, it's hard to argue the fact that both men set the tone for WrestleMania they will talk about for years to come. Styles winning the United States Championship is another huge accolade in his WWE career as he continues to solidify his legacy in the world of professional wrestling. Winning the title at the world famous Madison Square Garden puts Styles in an elite class of WWE superstars.
