VIDEO: Ball in the Family 1st Episode

So many people love putting down LaVar Ball. They say that he will ruin his son's career. Rather than backing down, he is embracing it. There is no better heel in sports than LaVar. Well, maybe Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Here is the first episode to the Ball family reality show.

One thing that stood out immediately the fact that they have Tina Ball's parents discussing how they really felt about their daughter, getting involved with a black man. Click below to watch.

John Cena vs Roman Reigns, Who Do You Root For?

Roman Reigns vs John Cena, the matchup for this generation. Both guys have been two of the top babyfaces in the company. On one hand, you have John Cena who has been the guy for over a decade. In my opinion, the greatest WWE Superstar ever. On the other hand, you have Roman Reigns, the guy who "the company" loves and wants you to love. So here is the question, who do you root for?

During the contract signing, Cena and Reigns took so many shots at each other, to the point Cena even owned the fact that they are breaking the 4th wall. While Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar will be the main event, these two just sold us on the fact that this must see TV. There is no doubt that the same way The Rock brought out the best in Cena in 2011, Cena will do the same for Reigns. It's too early for me to pick a winner, but I cannot wait until next week to see what they have up their sleeve.

Look below at how Twitter reacted.

Joe Flacco: The Rise and Fall of his Madden Rating

So I'm sitting here playing Madden and as usual, I check the player ratings. I notice that the guy who deemed himself "Elite" and then went out there and won a Super Bowl suddenly was slipping in the ratings. While it's clear that his play on the field has not been where it was in 2012, suddenly Joe Flacco's player rating was sub-85. In fact it was an 81. This is the second year in a row, but considering he was coming off an injury going into Madden 17, I thought maybe that wasn't fair. But I had do some research to see where his rating was each year the game was released.

Madden 09- 79
Madden 10 - 81
Madden 11 - 87
Madden 12 - 88
Madden 13 - 88
Madden 25 - 93 (Post- Super Bowl win)
Madden 15 - 86
Madden 16 - 89
Madden 17 - 81
Madden 18 -81

Seeing the rise and fall of Joe Flacco on paper really helps fans outside of Ravens Nation understand why fans are ready for a divorce.
Who knows, from Madden 15 to Madden 16, Flacco's overall raised by three points. Maybe a strong season will his ratings and silence the fans. After all, winning cures everything.

Kobe Bryant Issues a Challenge to Isaiah Thomas

Kobe Bryant, no longer playing in the NBA, but still challenges today's current players. The latest, Isaiah Thomas. Kobe goes to Instagram to challenge Thomas to make the All-NBA First Team next season.

Isaiah Thomas was recently traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers along with Jae Crowder and a 1st round draft pick for Kyrie Irving. Thomas was the leader, heart and soul of the Celtics. The team that was the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. Now he will be the second best player on the team. What is Kobe doing exactly? He is challenging Isaiah Thomas to continue to be the star that he is and not get lost in playing second fiddle to LeBron. Shaq was the leader and Kobe was number two, but Shaq still called Kobe the greatest player in the universe. When Shaq moved on, Kobe needed and eventually proved that he could bring the Los Angeles Lakers a championship being The Guy!

It's Time for Ghost and Kanan to Reunite

He lost his daughter and there is no doubt that he will lose his mind. We all know his best friend Tommy is crazy. But Tommy often gets trigger happy. When Ghost goes out to find Raina's killer, he is going to need someone who can think for him, who can pick apart the enemy. There is no better time than to call Kanan. While Ghost and Kanan have both come to the point of killing each other, there was once love there. Ghost even told him, he had to either kill him or set him up to go to jail. He told Kanan that you were my brother and I couldn't take you out like that. When Kanan had a choice to kill Ghost and his son, he couldn't. Seeing as he is the one who led Tariq to the life that he is not built for, he could help him get out. Ghost is going to avenge his daughter. It is time for him to call on one of the baddest dudes in New York to help.

The St. Patrick's Suffer Due to the Sins of the Father

You cannot convince me that you were not getting teary-eyed at the end of Episode 9 of Power. Tariq has been the most disrespectful and sneaky child but at the end of the episode, it was the sweet, innocent child named Raina who gunned down. In an attempt to save her brother, Raina confronted the crooked cop who was looking for Tariq and after a few words, the cop killed her. Although Ghost had no clue about what Tariq was into, you cannot help but think that the sins of the father have cost his family big.

James St. Patrick is a loving father, a businessman. However, Ghost is a bad mother you know what. If anyone crosses him, he has no problem pulling the trigger or getting someone else to do it. You can only do the world wrong for so long before it catches up to you. For a dad, there is something about having another man take your baby girl away from you. There is no doubt that Ghost will never be the same.

Tasha does not get exempt from blame either. The reason Tariq got involved with the wrong crowd is that not only did his dad lie to him, but his mom too. While the world hates Tariq, and rightfully so, at the end of the day, he is a young man craving for the attention and truth from his parents. This caused him to get involved in a life he was not built for. And because of that, it has cost him his sister's life....

Baron Corbin will NOT be WWE Champion

He's boring, he's skinny-fat, yet he is entitled. Now I'm writing this based on his character not his backstage antics, cause I know nothing about those. But I couldn't have been happier when I saw Jinder Mahal roll up Baron Corbin to retain his WWE Championship. That meant, Corbin became the third man to fail at cashing in the prestigious Money in the Bank contract.

Everyone doesn't need to have a successful cash-in. John Cena was the first and of course it didn't hurt him, however Damien Sandow was the second and his most prestigious reign was not in the WWE. There is nothing about Corbin that screams WWE Champion to me. I get bored when he speak. Now I will admit, he was one of the better heels of late. No one annoyed you more than him. He was doing his job, but that does not mean I want him to be my WWE champion. Sunday will be interesting when Mahal defends his title against Shinsuke Nakamura. I will release my predictions for that and the entire Summerslam card later this week. Until then I'm going to celebrate cause Corbin will not be champion!!!

My 5 Go-To Ric Flair Matches

Growing up as a fan of all the good guys, I loved rooting against Ric Flair. There is no denying that he put on some of the greatest matches. Hulk Hogan says he is the greatest wrestler in the history of the business. With that same respect and admiration for the Hulkster, Flair calls him the greatest performer the business has seen. Reflecting on his career, he are the first five matches that I always watch of his.

Ric Flair vs Sting World War III 95

There are many matches between Flair and Sting. While World War III may not be on anyone's list, its my favorite because it's the one I watch the most. The story of betrayal made you want to see Sting put Flair in the Scorpion Death Lock and never let go.

Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan Bash at the Beach 94

Finally! 7 year old Brian H. Waters was happy to see Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair go toe to toe. My parents never ordered WCW PPVs until Hogan came. This was one of those they couldn't miss.

Ric Flair vs Macho Man Randy Savage WrestleMania VIII

As a huge Macho Man fan and Flair fan, this match is still great two decades later. While everyone knows this should have been Hogan Flair, Savage and Flair gave us an incredible match.

Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels WrestleMania XXIV

All good things must come to end. WrestleMania XXIV was time for Flair's WWE career to come to an end. The story he and Shawn Michaels told was incredible because just like his character, Flair would not go down easy.

Ric Flair vs Harley Race Starrcade 83 Flair for the Gold

This is the only match on my go to list that Flair wins. Though I was not born yet, watching his DVDs made me understand the significance. Watching this classic is a must for any wrestling fan.

Honorable Mention 1992 Royal Rumble

Perhaps the greatest Royal Rumble in history, it was the night where the winner was crowned WWE Championship. Ric Flair would win his first WWE title and nothing was better than his speech to follow.

Tweet me @BrianHWaters your go to matches.

WNBA Teams added to NBA Live 18

For the past decade, NBA Live has been ousted in the video game battle by NBA 2K. No matter who is on the cover or what features they add, fans still prefer NBA 2K. However, EA Sports has decided to in a different direction this year. They are adding the WNBA to the game. Check out the video below. Will you give NBA Live a chance? For the sake of the WNBA Players, I will. I just hope they get the residual income that the players receive.

The NABJ Convention Blessed My Life

FullSizeRender 3.jpg

At the age of 9, I developed a love for sports. My passion would translate into writing creative stories when I was in elementary school. At the age of 11, I had this dream of becoming a professional baseball player which translated to a basketball player at 13. When I got to high school, the lightbulb went off quickly that I was not good enough to play either. So by the age of 15, I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. When I went to Morgan State University, I joined the National Association of Black Journalist. (NABJ). I knew my career was headed in the right direction.

During spring break of my senior year, my Persuasive Writing/Video Field Production teacher Jerry Bembry asked me if I would be interested in attending The NABJ Short Course held at North Carolina A&T. Being that I quit my job at Best Buy to spend more time learning my craft during my final semester, there was no way I was passing up this opportunity. During this time, I was blessed to learn a lot about what it takes to succeed as a black man in this field. This also set me up perfectly for the NABJ Convention which was held in Orlando, Florida.

#NABJ13, Orlando

The moment we landed in Orlando, I had one mission, GET A JOB. I took a three-year break after graduating from Baltimore City Community College, therefore I had a chip on my shoulder my entire time at Morgan. I was at average 4 years older than most of my classmates. So when I got to Orlando, I was on a mission.

On the first evening, we attended a welcoming ceremony followed by a reception at Disney World. I could not believe it. Days before my 27th birthday, I finally made it Disney World.  I got a chance to turn up with many of my friends and got a chance to see some of my short course mentors. By the time we got back to the hotel, it was time for sleep, we had an early morning. There was a mentor breakfast and there was no way we were missing that.

On Thursday morning, my friends and I got up in time and attended the breakfast. During that time many of the other aspiring journalists from around the country and we met some of the same commentators we see on television every day. Then it was time for the job fair. The reason I was there. The reason many students are there. If you are debating about going, this is the reasons you should say YES TO THE NABJ CONVENTION. TheJob Fair began at 9:00 am. By 9:03 am, I was at the ESPN booth. Now, remember I said I took three years off in between colleges. Throughout that time, I worked at Johns Hopkins Hosptial as a Support Associate, Rent-A-Center, and Best Buy. At each of those places, my goal was to get back to school and get to ESPN. At 26 years old, I was sitting there being interviewed by the World Wide Leader.

The interview process went well. I had my iPad, my resume on resume paper, and my business cards. I was ready. When I handed the recruiter my resume, she immediately said it was a good one. My resume included my wrestling talk show, The Wrestling Wrealm, my internships with The Baltimore Sun and the Better Business Bureau and the work I did at school. I could not believe how impressed ESPN was with my resume. After all, this company gets 700 applications per day for production assistants. During the interview, I was asked, "how do you feel about moving to Connecticut?" I was then introduced to another recruiter. She instructed me to add her on LinkedIn. I remember thinking, wow, glad I was smart enough to create an account. That would have sucked not having one at this pivotal moment in my career. It was that moment, I believed that I would land this job. I went to a couple of other booths, even had an interview, but I knew where I wanted to be.

At 4:00 pm, I received an email thanking me for meeting with them and for me to send my resume directly to the recruiter's work email. The rest of the weekend was great. I won't bore you with the details, you can go on Instagram and search #NABJ13 and #NABJ2013. Two weeks later, I received a phone call to set up a phone interview. That took place the next day. The following week, the company flew me to Connecticut for a group interview. About 10 days later, I received the call that changed my life. I got the job. It all started with the NABJ Convention.
It was an investment. It was a blessing that my school paid for my registration. I paid for my flight and split the costs of my room at the host hotel. That made the experience the best. Being able to be right there in the mix of everything made everything great. I was able to connect with many journalists throughout the country, both veterans and aspiring.

In 2015 I left ESPN and joined Fox Sports 1340AM as the Social Media Manager/ Broadcast Journalists. In 2016 I joined Johns Hopkins Medicine's Award-Winning Media Team as a Communication Specialists. My experience at ESPN led me to the position I am now. Again, this would not be possible if it were not for the NABJ Convention.

Can Ravens Fans Continue to Defend Ray Lewis?

There is no doubt that he is the greatest Raven to ever step foot on the gridiron. Ray Lewis was the second player ever drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 1996. His impact on the field is undeniable. He led the franchise to both of their Super Bowl victories. Lately, he has made headlines when it was revealed that he has been given the team owner, Steve Bisciotti advice on whether or not the team should select Colin Kaepernick. Recently he posted a video on Twitter where he told Kaepernick, “get back on the football field and let your play speak for itself.” This makes you wonder how much longer can his fans defend him.

Personally, I have been a Ravens fan since day one. Ray Lewis is my favorite NFL player of all-time. However, I can't defend his post football actions. I began to wonder, is he ruining his legacy in Baltimore?  I spoke with another Ravens fan, my friend, and broadcast partner, Kelsey Nelson about this and she stated, "Ray Lewis who has been with the Ravens since the beginning legacy on the football field can't be ruined in Baltimore. That's why he has the statue outside the gates. But in people's mind, their perception of him off the field and his thoughts as a leader have begun to change. Now Kelsey is a die hard Ravens fan, so I was a little surprised to hear her say that about number 52, but not surprised that she notices these things. Lewis was vocal during the Baltimore Riots in 2015. He told everyone to go and stop destroying the streets. For violence was not that answer. But then Lewis has done some things that make you scratch your head.

Where do we start? In 2014, Ravens star running-back Ray Rice was released after TMZ released a video of him punching his now-wife on an elevator. Ray Lewis response was, "some things you can cover up and some things you cannot. Now you may wonder, why is this a big deal? Wellllll in 1999, Lewis was charged with double-murder in Atlanta. There are questions as to what did he do with the white suit he was wearing. Baltimore supported him throughout that case, but as they get further away from his playing days, it becomes harder for some of his fans to support him.

Fans were not happy with Lewis had a closed door meeting with Donald Trump after he was elected president of the United States. Lewis along with Jim Brown did not go for politics, instead to "help African-Americans. So their visit has been in vain.

On Undisputed Ray Lewis upset the African-American community when he said that NFL owners should not worry about going into their communities to help clean up crime. Isn't that community putting money in these owner's pockets? Shannon Sharpe replied by simply saying that they should care because it is the United States of America. How do you respond to that?

Now to be fair, Lewis is not one of those people who did not speak much during his playing career and suddenly had a voice. Instead, he has always been vocal often keeping God first in all of his motivational speeches. Considering his reputation, it's harder for fans to accept what he says unlike someone like Russell Wilson. Everyone outside of Baltimore sees Lewis as a hypocrite. Someone who simply likes to hear himself speak. Will there be a time where fans in Baltimore start to feel the same way?

Ray Lewis sends Colin Kaepernick a Heartfelt Message

Everyone has been dragging Ray Lewis' name through the mud on Twitter after his appearance on Undisputed. How does he respond? A simple message on Twitter to Colin Kaepernick. See the video below.
