Wrestling For The Culture: March 25th

Cruiserweight Title Match for WrestleMania Set

The match is set. The title shall no longer remain vacant. At WrestleMania 34, Cedric Alexander will face Mustafa Ali. The Heart and the Soul, which side will win? This has the potential to steal the show. It is great to see two faces in this match. What we will see is two competitors vying to be the best! Alexander has been close to winning the title, but something has always gotten in the way. Will his moment come at WrestleMania? Only time will tell.

Mark Henry Comments on Hulk Hogan's Possible Return

We all know why Hulk Hogan has not been with the WWE since 2015. There are a lot of wrestlers who gave their opinions on the manner. I will speak mine in the upcoming edition of Break It Down With Brian H.  Mark Henry previously said that he would welcome Hogan back if he apologized. However, he recently said that he sits on the chair for the delegation of Black Wrestlers. He said that they are not ready. He continued with the following:

“There’s gonna have to be more community service and outside work Support for programs and even creative programs that deal with diversity in the workplace. … I don’t process everything like everybody else. I believe that everybody should be given a second chance but I also believe that you have to own your issue, whatever that issue is. You gotta try to make closure on everybody else’s behalf, not just yours.”

I will say this, Henry has probably made the most sense out of anyone who is not ready for a Hogan. He made a great point when he says community service and owning the issue. Hopefully, Hogan will listen.

Last week, Impact Wrestling saw four superstars open their briefcases. Inside the cases was a feast or fired card. If they feasted, they received the title match that was on their card. If they were feasting, they were fired. Moose was one of the final two briefcases holders. He and EC3 were supposed to open theirs at the same time, but EC3 waited, after the reaction from everyone else, he learned that Moose would receive a shot at the Global Championship while he would be fired.

Hulk Hogan Returning to the WWE

Let me tell you something brother, this has been a great week for Brian H Waters. First Daniel Bryan comes out of retirement after being cleared for in-ring competition and now Hulk Hogan could be returning to the WWE. WWE issued a statement confirming they are in talks with the former World Champion.

Now, let’s go back to 2015. Shortly after WrestleMania 31, a tape leaked where Hogan was caught saying a racial slur. As a black man, it wasn’t anything I had heard before. Was I disappointed of course but it was the past. I read Hogan’s book where he discusses the struggles he faced before finding Jesus Christ. He was on the verge of suicide. He had a gun in his mouth but it was Laila Ali who called him and prevented him from pulling the trigger. He would start going to church with her and his life would change. He found a happiness.

Now you may not believe him, that’s your choice. But how can you have the WWE, WrestleMania or even the sport of pro wrestling without Hulk Hogan. It’s time to bring the Hulkster back!

My Top 5 Favorite WrestleMania Moments

It’s WrestleMania season so it’s only right I share some WrestleMania content. Before you read, make sure you check out the latest episode of Break It Down With Brian H.

5. The Rock passes torch to Cena

The Rock returned to the WWE in 2011. He declared he was home. His first role was to host WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta. But before he got there he addressed an issue he had with John Cena. Cena who challenged The Miz for the WWE Championship was not successful after being on the receiving end of a Rock Bottom. This led to him challenging the Rock to a once in a lifetime match the next year in Miami. The Rock would go on to defeat Cena at WrestleMania 28. The Rock would go back to Hollywood and work at the WWE part-time which is still more than he had done in the previous 8 years but he returned in January to win the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. That night, Cena won the Rumble setting up the two at WrestleMania 29. This wasn’t just your ordinary WrestleMania main event. It was a night where Cena was seeking redemption. He had not held the title in nearly two years nor had he defeated one of the biggest stars in the business. Cena would finally get over the hump, defeat The Rock and receive the ultimate validation from the People’s Champion at the end of the night.

4. Shawn Michaels wins Title at 12

In 1996, the boyhood dream came true. Shawn Michaels finally reached the top of the wrestling world when he defeated Bret Hart for the WWE Title. The year before, Michaels came up short in the WWE Title match against Diesel after winning the Royal Rumble as the number one entrant. One year later, in a 60-Minute iron match (that went into overtime) Shawn Michaels became the WWE Champion.

3. Undertaker loses to Reigns

The Undertaker and WrestleMania have been going hand and hand since 1990. Until WrestleMania 30, he was undefeated, where he lost to Brock Lesnar. But Taker stuck around and his matches was still relevant. At WrestleMania 33 in his 25th match at the granddaddy of them all, Taker was defeated by Roman Reigns. After his match, the Undertaker broke character by removing his hat and coat and walked out. The moment left many people leaving Orlando in tears.

2.Hulk Hogan vs The Rock

If you were a fan of WWE in the 80s, you knew who Hulk Hogan was. If you were a fan in the late 90s early 2000s, you knew who The Rock was. At WrestleMania 18, we saw these two icons collide. We never got to see Mike Tyson take on Muhammad Ali, but on this night we saw Hulk Hogan take on The Rock. This match was not the main event but it clearly stole the show. Everyone forgets that Triple H won the WWE Title that night because this was a night we saw a dream match.

1. Daniel Bryan wins the WWE Title

The movement began in 2012. In the opening contest of WrestleMania 28, Daniel Bryan the World Heavyweight Championship lost in 18 seconds. Obliviously the fans were not pleased and they began chanting YES throughout the night. During the summer of 2013, Bryan found himself in the main event of Summerslam against John Cena. After defeating Cena to win his first WWE Title, Triple H pedigreed him and allowed Randy Orton to cash in his Money In the Bank contract to win the title. Triple H maintained his beliefs that Bryan was a b-plus player and not a champion that should represent the company. As much as the company tried to hold him back the people pushed for it. The Yes Movement began and was in full effect. So much they pushed Triple H to accept a match with Bryan at WrestleMania. With The Game in the palm of his hand, Bryan made a stipulation  that put him in the WWE Title match if he defeated Triple H.

Bryan would go on to defeat The Game but was attacked after the match. Going into the title match with an injured shoulder, he was beaten brutally by both Batista and the Champion Orton. If that was enough Triple H came to ringside and got some more of Bryan. With all this happening, Bryan still willed his way to victory and turned WrestleMania 30 into Yestle-Mania!

5 Daniel Bryan Matches I want in 2018

It is official, Daniel Bryan is back. The Yes Movement stayed alive throughout his two-year retirement and now it going to new heights. With that being said, here are 5 opponents on Smackdown I want to see him in the ring with this year.

5. Rusev

Say what you want, but Rusev is entertaining. If you really want him to be a heel, then put him in the ring with Daniel Bryan. At this point, we can truly say that Bryan is the most popular guy on the roster. Considering how Bryan has gotten over the years, I believe a match between these two would be fun.

4. Kevin Owens

Owens has been a top guy for a while now.  The fact that he has always bucked against authority and how long Bryan has been commissioner, these two are bound to clash. Nothing would make Owens more hated that for him to beat down Bryan the way that he did Vince McMahon.

3. Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn may have the biggest beef with Daniel Bryan right now. He came to Smackdown hoping for an opportunity and literally got the treatment he did on Monday Night Raw until he teamed with Kevin Owens. And every chance he got, he would remind Bryan that he could not wrestle anymore. Well, that's not the case anymore. These two could have a feud that would steal the show at a major PPV.

2. Shinsuke Nakamura

The King of Strong Style and The American Dragon in the same ring? What a site that would be. These two men have so much charisma that you would be entertained before the match started. While many may not want to admit, Shinsuke hasn't exactly wowed everyone since he joined the main roster, but his matches actually have been good. The issue has been the storylines he has been involved in may not have been the best. But add him and Bryan together and I guarantee you that you will watch!

1. AJ Styles

I cannot write enough words to do this match justice. AJ Styles cannot have a bad match. He has proved that he can be the top heel and top face in the company. Bryan is one of the best in-ring technicians (leave them dives alone Bryan) in the business. This match has WrestleMania main event all over it!

Daniel Bryan Returning to the Ring?

The last time we saw him perform on the grandest stage was March 29, 2015 when he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship, becoming a grand slams champion. But little did we know, we would not see Daniel Bryan perform on the big stage again, as he would announce his retirement months later due to injury. However, according sources, Bryan has been CLEARED to wrestle AGAIN! Could this be true? What does this mean?

If you know me, you know that Daniel Bryan is my favorite wrestler of all time. He surpassed both Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart in my book. If this is true, this is Christmas coming early. The rumor is that he will team with Shane McMahon to face Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 34. WrestleMania will be in New Orleans at the Superdome. The same place where he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a Title he never lost. If this is true I do not want to see just one match.

When you look at the talent in WWE right now, there are so many potential big matches for Bryan. AJ Styles, Finn Balor,  Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura just to name a few. And if he does get back in the ring, I would love to see my guy, DB main event WrestleMania 35. Now that would be MAIN EVENT!

Mark Henry Is WWE Hall of Fame Bound

Congratulations to former World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry.  In WWE's official WrestleMania magazine, there is an interview published with the World's Strongest Man about his career and what it meant to be in the Hall of Fame. Henry has been with the company since 1996 but his biggest moment came in 2011 when he defeated Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions. This was during the era of the Hall of Pain. The Hall of Pain is where Henry was taking out of all his opponents and leaving them on the shelf for weeks at a time. Wrestling For The Culture: Starring Miss Drew Renee

On this edition of Wrestling For The Culture, I had an opportunity to catch up with someone who recently stepped into the ring at NXT, the one, and only Miss Drew Renee.

BW: How long have you been wrestling?

DR: I have been training since August 2016. I made my debut on the RISE preshow in Chicago last November!

BW: What was the moment that made you decide that this was something you wanted to do?

DR: When I walked into training and took my first bump, I knew that was where I belonged. I watched WWE when I was younger and was very inspired, but I never really saw myself in the product until women like AJ Lee, Sasha Banks, and Charlotte, came onto the scene.

BW: As a woman of color, what has been some of the challenges you have faced in this business?

DR: I’m very new to working different promotions, so I haven’t experienced many challenges as of yet. I’m still working on making a name for myself. I’m lucky because a lot of the people who I train(ed) with are people of color. However, I would say as a woman I have to prove that I’m serious about my career and that I don’t show up to training or shows for any other reason besides becoming a better wrestler and furthering my career.

BW: Describe the feeling when you got the call to work on NXT?

DR: When I got the call, I was so appreciative that my trainers Ray Lloyd and QT Marshall would co-sign me having that opportunity. I was also shocked that it happened so early in my career! When I went up against Bianca Belair, I was so nervous, but It only made me hungry for more!

BW: Who have been some of your mentors in the business?

DR: Definitely my trainers, Ray Lloyd and QT Marshall have taught me so much about the business inside and outside of the ring. They put so much of themselves into the One Fall Power Factory that it makes me work harder every day! Also, Daffney (WCW and TNA), she’s an amazing woman who is so giving and supportive.

BW: In a perfect scenario, where would you be in five years?

DR: In the perfect scenario, I’d have a WWE contract and be on Monday Night Raw!

    BW: Book your WrestleMania moment.

Wrestling For The Culture: March 11th

        No Contest???

The New Day and The Usos renewed their rivalry at WWE Fastlane, but their match was ruled a no contest when the Blugeon Brothers interfered.

        Asuka Chooses Her Opponent.

Asuka won the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match. She did not choose her opponent until WWE Fastlane. Not saying a word, she simply pointed. Asuka came down to the ring after Charlotte successfully retained her title. She then got in the ring and pointed. It is official, Asuka will challenge Charlotte for the WWE Smackdown Live Women's Champion.

        Bianca Belair Up Next?

Bianca Belair took on another woman of color this past week on NXT. Belair defeated Miss Drew Renee. She looked very strong and should be the next contender for the NXT Women's Championship.

AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura is Happening!

The match that the WWE Universe has been waiting for is happening. AJ Styles retained his WWE Championship at WWE Fastlane and now will defend his title against Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34. Will Nakamura become the first Japanese superstar to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania?

New Ring of Honor Six Man Tag Champs

Scorpio Sky wins the Ring of Honor Six-Man Tag Team Championship alongside Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels also known as SoCal Uncensored when they defeated The Young Bucks and Hangman Page at Ring of Honor's 16th Anniversary show. SoCal Uncensored are the 5th Six Man Tag Team Champions.

        205 Live Rebranded

Triple H has apparently taken over the Cruiserweight division and rumors are that Lio Rush and Ricochet will be headed that way. If this is true, these guys have enough charisma to make people care about what is going on.

Faye Jackson vs Mia Yim coming soon!

Faye Jackson bounced back from Friday Night's loss to Lufisto that ended her undefeated streak for over a year. She defeated Terra Callaway at Nova Wrestling's Rip Her to Shreds. She now has Mia Yim waiting for her!

        Rich Swann Retiring?

Take your tweet how you want to. It appears that Rich Swann is retiring. He did cancel a booking this weekend at CZW.

If I'm Booking: 2018 WWE Fastlane

WWE Fastlane is the official final stop on the road to WrestleMania.
It's time for me to book the show.

        Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev

Shinsuke Nakamura is getting ready for his WrestleMania debut, but before that, he must face Rusev. As much as I would hate for Rusev to take an L right here, I give Shinsuke the win to have him going into WrestleMania strong. Spoiler alert, I am not booking Nakamura to win the title, therefore I have him win at Fastlane. If I was, Rusev would beat him and give him an opponent on the other end of Mania.

        Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

Becky Lynch and Naomi  vs. Natalya and Carmella
Naomi and Natalya have been beefing for months. Becky Lynch just scored a pin over Carmella. I wouldn't have Carmella cash in just yet. That will happen next month. In this match, Naomi scores the pinfall over Natalya.

        Winner: Naomi and Becky Lynch

        United States Championship Match
Bobby Roode (C) vs. Randy Orton

Bobby Roose vs Randy Orton is a dream match that should not be taking place at Fastlane. Orton is looking to win the one title that has eluded him in his career, the United States Championship. Jinder Mahal is also the wildcard. I would have Mahal screwing Roode out of the title and set up a triple threat match at WrestleMania.

        Winner: Randy Orton

        WWE Smackdown Live Women's Championship
        Charlotte Flair vs. Ruby Riott

Ruby Riott and the Riott Squad has ran through the women's division. But that stops here. There is no way, I would have Riott going into WrestleMania as the Smackdown Live Women's Champion. What this match would do is allow me to see if Riott will be a candidate for the Money in the Bank briefcase this summer.

        Winner: Charlotte

WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship
The Usos (C) vs. The New Day

The Usos vs The New Day was the hottest tag team feud this past summer. Just when you did not think it could get any better, it did. Jimmy and Jey Uso cut a promo on their frustration of not being on the main card at WrestleMania, while the New Day reminded them they took what they want. This match would end in no contest as the Bludgeon Brothers come out and take out both teams to set up a triple threat tag match at WrestleMania.

        Winner: Double Disqualification

Six-Pack Challenge for the WWE Championship
Baron Carbin vs Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles (C) vs John Cena vs Sami Zayn vs Dolph Ziggler

AJ Styles is really close to walking into WrestleMania as WWE Champion. Like he said, he spent many years with other companies trying to get to the WWE. You also have Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler looking to headline WrestleMania. Kevin Owens wants to be the guy, while Sami Zayn feels he is the best. Then there is John Cena, the man who does not want to get lost in the shuffle. Who do you go with? Without a doubt, AJ Styles. In this match, Styles pins Cena and moves on to Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.

        Winner: AJ Styles
